WebRespiratory failure is a condition in which the respiratory system fails in one or both of its gas exchange functions, i.e. oxygenation of and/or elimination of carbon dioxide from mixed venous blood. It is conventionally defined by an arterial oxygen tension (P a,O 2) of <8.0 kPa (60 mmHg), an arterial carbon dioxide tension (P a,CO 2) of >6.0 kPa (45 mmHg) or both. WebTreatment.
