WebAug 27, 2024 · The shield is reliant on two factors, ship's power, and pentaxid. Pentaxid feeds the shield itself, whereas ship's power lets the device run. It depends on how often said base is attacked. If you feel that it is worth it, go for it. As for a CV, if you are getting into a lot of combat, use one.

But that answer is just to make things work out in the Empire Strikes Back. It's not an explanation for why the generators are above ground. I am not sure why the power generator can't be underground, but we can speculate it would melt the ice.
