The colour cast due to illumination is removed to support colour-based image recognition and stable tracking (in and out of shadows), among other tasks. In this paper, I review historical and current algorithms for illumination estimation. WebOur methods are thoroughly tested on two different applications exploiting two different modalities: (i) 6D camera relocalization from images; and (ii) object pose estimation from 3D point clouds, demonstrating decent advantages over the state of the art.
